What to wear (and not wear) to a Pilates matwork class

WHAT TO WEAR TO A PILATES MATWORK AND REFORMER CLASS

Wear what you’d normally wear to a gym class, or even what you run in potentially — so your exercise gear needs to be comfortable and easy/stretchy enough to move around in, as your limbs will be moving around in a greater range of movement than usual. We do quite a lot of mat work, so clothing with too many zippers, fastenings, studs, etc. will be uncomfortable. So you could opt for a comfy breathable top and form-fitting leggings like tights, or looser, light joggers, or even shorts but with leggings/tights underneath, as you don’t want them to gape and be too revealing, as of course our legs are going to lift above our heads for some exercises.

Then, we don’t train in shoes, so you can either go barefoot or opt for non-slip socks, as we don’t want to slip and slide around on the floor or mat. No worries if you don’t have non-slip socks — barefoot will be fine for your ‘taster’ class and, if you decide you enjoy the class and would like to continue, then you can invest in a pair of non-slip socks.
